Evelien Prakke


After initial piano lessons, Evelien heard a cello in a concert and decided that was what she wanted to do in life. She studied with Dmitri Ferschtman and at Indiana University in Bloomington with Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi. As a student, she played in the European Community Youth Orchestra. She holds a part time position as principal cellist with the Dutch Ballet Orchestra, at Dutch National Opera and Ballet in Amsterdam.
In Spain,  she has been a guest principal cellist with the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, and she was invited recently several times as guest principal with the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra and the Amsterdam Based Pop-Up Orchestra. She is a regular guest with Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and plays with the exciting new Dutch group LUDWIG.
With Ludwig, she participated in the recent tours with soprano Barbara Hannigan, to Italy in 2016 and December 2017 the “Crazy Girl Crazy “ tour all across Europe. In the 2019 season LUDWIG toured France, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, the UK and California with a Stravinsky program.
In January 2020 Evelien toured as principal cellist with Camerata RCO to Colombia, playing and teaching at the Cartegena Music Festival. She also has been coaching the cello section of “la Joven”, Colombias National Youth Orchestra in Baranquilla, where they prepared Bruckner 8.

Together with violinist Hebe Mensinga, she was part of the Delos Ensemble touring the Netherlands, Syria, Libanon, Bosnia, France and the UK. Active in the field of chambermusic, Evelien recently performed a Solo Program of Bach and Ligeti in Freiburg, Germany and in the Swiss town Neuchâtel. Last summer she played Schubert Octet with Camerata RCO at Cinque Terre International Music Festival, in Trecastagni International Music Festival with Patricia de la Vega, and Daniel Rowland and Maja Bogdanovic.
