Vilma Tikkanen
Violin
Vilma Tikkanen (born 2011) is an eight-grade student from Helsinki, who takes care of two cats at home, dances, reads and studies violin at the Sibelius Academy youth education program of the University of the Arts Helsinki in professor Réka Szilvay's class. In addition, Vilma is a student of the Violin Academy in Porvoo. There, she is coached by Janne Malmivaara and Elina Vähälä.
Vilma began her violin studies at the age of 3 with Terhi Mali at the West Helsinki Music Institute. She has also received instruction from Zoja Istomina, Päivyt Meller, Annemarie Åström, Sirkka- Liisa Kaakinen, and Daniel Rowland at music camps and courses. The chamber music courses at the Sibelius Academy youth education program have provided an introduction to ensemble playing. Vilma is a member of the string quartet Milou.
She has performed at the Tampere Chamber Music Festival, at the Riihimäki Summer Concerts, and at the Violin Academy and Sibelius Academy concerts. As a soloist, Vilma has played in the Panula Academy soloist concert and in the finals of the Juhani Heinonen Violin Competition. Vilma participated in the 2022 Juhani Heinonen Violin Competition, where the recognition award inspired her to continue her studies. In the 2025 competition, she came second in the 13-15 year old category. Vilma has been selected as a soloist for the Wegelius Chamber Strings in the autumn of 2025.
