Béni Csillag (1976) began his musical education at the age of six with violin lessons. After playing various instruments, in 1995 he began studying choral and orchestral conducting at the Liszt Ferenc Academy in Budapest. Besides these main subjects, Béni studied music theory and school music as well. He completed his studies in 2001.
In 2003 Béni Csillag was selected for the Eric Ericson Masterclass in Haarlem. This was led by Hartmut Haenchen and Uwe Gronostay. For a week, Béni worked with The Netherlands Chamber Choir and The Netherlands Radio Choir. In June 2007 he was selected again, this time the teachers were Simon Halsey and Robert Sund.
In 2004 he assisted Tonu Kaljuste in Vigevano (Italy) with the World Chamber Choir, a branch of the World Youth Choir, in which Béni had been a singer for many years.
Béni Csillag is living in the Netherlands. He studied choral conducting at the Royal Conservatory with Jos van Veldhoven and Jos Vermunt. In September 2008 he graduated Cum Laude with a Master’s degree. He is the conductor of Consensus Vocalis and the Nederlands Studenten Kamerkoor. He has given concerts with The Netherlands Chamber Choir, worked as a rehearsal director with the The Netherlands Radio Choir, Cappella Amsterdam, and Chorwerk Ruhr, and has appeared as a guest conductor with the Choir of the Hungarian Radio in his native city Budapest and the Chamber Choir of the Slovenian Philharmonic.
